About SBEC International School
Get to know us!
Our story started on 17th September 2001 when SBEC opened its doors with only 3 students aged 2 to 3, in a rented apartment in Kerr Serign.
Inspired by the growing need to have more quality schools in The Gambia, SBEC teachers and administration set off to provide sound bilingual education (French/English) to the children in a disciplined environment.
From our humble origins in a house-turned-to-school setup, we met the educational needs of our students. Within months, word spread of the high educational standards being achieved. We were overwhelmed by the demand for our educational provision. We immediately set our sight on building and moving into a more suitable campus. After three years, SBEC moved into its own story building with all the facilities needed to ensure success for both a nursery and junior school. The school flourished for a further five years and once again the need to build and move the older students to a high school environment became eminent. With the support of The Gambia Government, through the Ministries of Education and Land, SBEC was granted a plot of land to build its high school.
In September 2009, we took occupancy of the high school building situated in Salaji. This was followed by receipt of various accolades including Gambia Government’s recognition of our school as an International School, SBEC becoming a member of the Association of International Schools in Africa (AISA), and SBEC accredited (by Cambridge UK) as a Cambridge School, the first in The Gambia.
In 2012, SBEC gave birth to another new section, the College and most recently, the Arabic section (in 2014). SBEC continues to rank amongst the top performing schools in The Gambia.
SBEC has grown and changed enormously over the years and has had to manage many challenges. However one thing never changed – we never stopped wanting the best for our students, staff and parents; the SBEC family.
On our journey we have always accepted that like any institution, our school is not perfect. That is why we have always valued feedback, for it helps us to reflect and implement a lot of changes. Thank you to everyone past and present parent for your very special and valuable contributions to SBEC International School. We would like to welcome anyone who will add value, to join the SBEC family, be it as a student, parent, staff or volunteer and become part of our story.
